Early Intervention Evaluations (EI)

The Early Intervention Program is a statewide program designed to help families navigate the evaluation process in case of a suspected delays in children birth- 3 years old. Based on the outcome of the evaluation special services may be recommended for the child. The county of parental residence has full financial responsibility for these evaluations and services and presents no cost to families. Early Intervention services are proven to be beneficial for children who face special challenges. They also help families learn the best way to promote a child’s development and care.

Preschool Evaluations

Preschool aged children (3-5 years) may be referred to their school district Committee on Pre-school Special Education (CPSE) if a developmental delay is suspected. This referral can be made in writing by either the parent, caregiver, physician or teacher, however the consent to evaluate must be given by the parent. Upon receipt of the parental consent in writing, the CPSE must meet within 60 days to review findings. Referrals include information about the area(s) of concern, family background, medical history and any previous evaluations. Information provided by the parent is extremely helpful to evaluators in order to get a clear understanding of a child’s strengths, needs, interests and life experiences.

Parents typically choose an evaluator from a list provided by the school district’s CPSE. Advanced Therapy is an approved agency in 12 counties and in over 30 school districts.
